Birmingham beauty set to join St Patrick’s Day Parade

The reigning Miss Birmingham will add a touch of glamour to this weekend’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations when she makes a special guest appearance.

Miss BirminghamEdgbaston beauty Kris’ina Jagpal will join the popular St Patrick’s Parade through Digbeth this Sunday (March 17) in front of thousands of onlookers.

The 24-year-old will walk with the Aston Villa mascots during the procession, which will see colourful floats, bands and community groups make their way from Camp Hill along Digbeth High Street and up to the city centre from midday.

Around 85,000 revellers are expected to turn out for the celebrations in honour of Ireland’s patron saint with the parade a firmly established family day out, hailing not only the role of Irish migrants in shaping Birmingham, but also the diverse and welcoming make-up of the Second City.

It won’t be the first time Kris’ina has teamed up with Aston Villa’s mascots, having worked closely with the football club numerous times during her time as Miss Birmingham, helping to promote and support Midlands children’s hospice Acorns, Villa’s chosen charity partner.

Youth worker and fashion student Kris’ina is coming to the end of her time as Miss Birmingham, with the search having now been launched to crown her successor, but she said she was very excited about appearing in front of such a big crowd.

She said: “St Patrick’s Day in Birmingham is always a lot of fun and I can’t wait to be involved in the parade itself.

“Birmingham is such a diverse and welcoming city and it is great that different communities unite for family days out such as this. It is such a colourful occasion and I’ll have plenty of friends watching in the crowd.

“The Villa mascots are always such a hit with children as well, so it will be really nice to see the reaction they get during the parade. I know Villa have got a big game on Saturday too, so hopefully they can enjoy the luck of the Irish for that one!”

Kris’ina Jagpal was chosen as Miss Birmingham last March and will hand over her crown to a new ambassador for the city following the Miss Birmingham 2013 finals on May 5. Entries are now being welcomed from females aged 17 to 24 who live, work or study in Birmingham and the surrounding areas. To enter visit www.missbirmingham.co.uk.
