A league of their own

Nothing planned for Saturday? How about watching a football match?

FootballSaturday is the annual football non-league day, when everyone who supports a league team should make the effort to go and watch a proper game.

Locally, the highest level fixture is in the Conference North, where Solihull Moors entertain Guiseley. A level down in the Evostik Northern Premier are Hednesford Town v Ashton United and Rushall Olympic v Chorley.  Entrance at Rushall is just £5 for season ticket holders at league clubs or for anyone who can bring proof of a Walsall postcode. Also at the same level are Evostik Southern Premier League table-toppers Stourbridge at home to St Neots, who feature former Villa striker Stefan Moore in their line-up, and Redditch United v Totton.

There are plenty of other local non-league sides in action, with full programmes in the Midland Football Alliance, West Midland League  and Midland Combination.

Many clubs are marking the day with cheap admission or special attractions – check with them before setting out to a match.
