Helena Fernandez Fuentes tells why she will be in London this afternoon.
On Tuesday 17th March 2015 Jimmy McGovern, whose multi award-winning film COMMON helped put Joint Enterprise into the public psyche, will be marching in London with the JENGbA families who inspired him to write the script.
At 2pm families from all over the country will meet at Victoria Coach Station to march to 10 Downing Street where we will hand in our petition of over 10,000 signatures.
We will also be accompanied by the film’s producer Colin McKeown and leading cast members, Susan Lynch (victim Thomas Ward’s mum), Andy Tiernan (JonJo’s dad) and Robert Pugh (the policeman who loves Joint Enterprise).
At 3pm a small group of six protestors will enter the gates to 10 Downing Street, Jan Cunliffe (mum of Jordan Cunliffe), Gloria Morrison (Campaign Co-Ordinator) and three other core members of JENGbA will attend along with Jimmy McGovern.
We have been told accredited press will be allowed in with us to record the event. JENGbA campaigners and families will be available to speak to press and Colin McKeown will be on hand to answer any press enquiries regarding the film.
The day is about highlighting the injustice of joint enterprise and the unfair mandatory life sentences given to those who, at trial, are proven innocent of the actual murder yet still convicted of murder. Over-zealous prosecutors insist cases are a joint enterprise even when an incident is clearly spontaneous and unplanned. We are representing over 500 prisoners who are maintaining their innocence but we believe this is the tip of the iceberg.
