Blues lost in the smog

Blues are beaten by Middlesbrough with Andy Munro watching.

This was a depressingly flat performance from the home side except for the opening exchanges of both halves.

At the off Blues seemed on their game and could have taken the lead but were foiled by a brilliant save from the Boro keeper. Then it all started to go badly wrong although Boro’s opening goal had more than a hint of offside about it. Worse still, the goal was scored by an ex-Villa player who stupidly tried to antagonise the Tilton.

To add insult to injury he followed that up with a second and in both cases one wonders if our keeper could have done better. Incidentally, James Beadle’s kicking was atrocious and unless we are still bound to play him then Ryan Allsop beckons.

Christoph Klarer had another so-so game and Johnathan Panzo also didn’t cover himself with glory. The full-backs were a bit brighter but still struggled against the opposition wingbacks.

Blues midfield was often outnumbered with only two ‘proper’ midfielders and they looked top-heavy and confused moving forward.

In fairness Blues goal was well -worked between Jay Stanfield and the Duck but they generally lacked a cutting edge. The subs were made like for like and made no real difference when really a change of tactical formation would have been more effective.

Considering the money Blues have spent, the one goal for and six conceded in the last two games is almost criminal. Chris Davies must be now looking nervously over his shoulder, especially with fellow ‘American’ club Wrexham comparatively flying having spent far less and the chances of Blues making the play-offs now looking increasingly like a distant dream.
