Andy Munro sees Blues’ pre-season boosted as they beat Barcelona.
Blues got the better of Barcelona courtesy of a penalty shoot-out in a real cut and thrust encounter .
To be fair, Barcelona had more of the play and more shots but Blues had plenty of moments, not least when Priske topped an impressive performance by heading home the opener.
Barcelona then equalised when Christoph Klarer who wasn’t his usual dominant self brought down a visiting player who then cooly converted the resultant penalty.
The Catalans then took the lead after Beadle spilled a shot although the Blues keeper redeemed himself with a couple of excellent saves both in the game and the shoot-out.
However, it was far from one-way traffic and following good work from Alex Cochrane, who had an excellent game, and a header back into the box by Klarer, Solis converted from close in.
Chances then came and went from both sides including a shot from Cochrane that hit the bar with the Barca keeper beaten..
As regards performances, Neumann showed he is not going to give up his place easily, similarly Cochrane, whilst Fujimoto looks at the very best to be a fringe player.
Solis and Priske have now properly settled in and will be major assets while the jury must be out on Vasquez, who looked a bit one-paced although to be fair his appearance was a mere cameo.
Whilst Beadle redeemed himself his kicking is nowhere near the standard of Ryan Allsop. Out wide, Vicente continues to impress but even with Demarai Gray coming back, probably we need to be in the hunt for another wide player if, as seems likely, we are not going to get the loan on Ibrahim renewed.
Either way, it was a very encouraging performance against a Barca team which included a core of first-teamers with a clutch of new signings and youngsters desperate to impress.
