Blues beating Oxford United leaves Andy Munro feeling optimistic.
Things are now starting to take shape but, to be fair, so they should with the money Blues have spent. Oxford United are no Real Madrid although they’ve had a decent run of results, including beating a decent Leicester side. In fact it was no walk in the park but that was only to be expected as Blues looked to blend in the new signings.
Jhon Solis was a veritable giant in midfield and reminiscent of a Senegalese player with a similar build that we signed over ten years ago who earned the nickname ‘The Wardrobe’ namely Guirane N’Daw, although equally cult hero Olivier Tebily also springs to mind .
Out wide, Ibrahim Osman caused complete panic in the opposition defence as he ran them ragged although a better final ball would be the icing on the cake. Carlos Vicente came on for Patrick Roberts and oozed class in a cameo performance so plenty to look forward to there, as seems likely for Auhust Priske, who will undoubtedly be a threat once he finds his Championship feet.
In lauding the new signings, it would be remiss not to mention another solid performance at the back with Christoph Klarer being immense as usual and his sidekick Neumann starting to step up to the plate. Meanwhile both Tomoki Iwata and Kai Wagner linked well with their wide men and some promising partnerships look set to be made.
It’s all looking good but there is a long way to go – and at least five points to make up!
