Blues silence the Canaries

A good Blues win at Norwich is watched by Andy Munro.

This was never going to be easy with the Canaries on song and with Blues’ previous record at Carrow Road verging on the abysmal.

Perhaps in anticipation of a hard fixture, Chris Davies started with strong men Iwata and Solis in the middle although, to be fair, the forward players were packed with attacking skills.

Early on Blues were in almost complete ascendancy and it was no surprise when the lively Vicente opened the scoring. This was soon added to after clever work by Priske set up the Ducksch to slot home. A word here for Priske who was a real handful throughout the time he was on the pitch and perhaps for the first time showed that he can really cut the Championship mustard.

In the second half it was perhaps predictable that an in-form Norwich side would fight back hard and as soon as they cut the arrears, they put Blues under the cosh. Even the normal defensive rock that is Christoph Klarer had a hard time of things but luckily it was a case of Beadle’s about as the Blues keeper pulled off several excellent saves. Fair play also to both Wagner and Panzo who were steadfast under the increasing pressure.

It was also good to be able to now make substitutes without seriously weakening the line-up with Ethan Laird making a welcome appearance and Osman keeping the Canaries defence on their toes

Undoubtedly, this was a must-win game if Blues were to keep pace with the other play-off candidates and the fight that they had to bag the three points against a comparative ‘lowly’ Norwich side shows how even and competitive is the Championship.
