Andy Munro watches Blues beat Leicester City.
Despite their lowly position, due to a six point financial penalty, Leicester have a more than useful side. Thankfully, Jordan James was unavailable so Blues fans were spared the anguish of an ex-player inevitably scoring.
In fact Blues started off very brightly and it was the pacy Ibrahim Osman who pounced on a Leicester mistake to run through to coolly finish. Although Blues generally had the upper hand some complacency set in and they were made to pay when the lively Fatawu was on hand to hammer home from a poor attempt by the Blues defence to clear.
This seemed to shock the home side into taking back control and when Decordova-Reid was sent off for trying to scythe down the electric Osman, he was deservedly sent for an early bath.
Blues duly stepped up a gear but despite their pressure, including hitting the crossbar, Leicester managed to see things out until half-time. Perhaps if one were to be hyper-critical, the classy Carlos Vincente wasn’t played in enough with Blues appearing to favour the left side when attacking.
The second period again saw Blues running the opposition ragged and it was no surprise when Marvin Ducksch played in Jay Stansfield, who must have given a sigh of relief (as did the rest of us) to notch the winner, and an end to his goal drought, from a tight angle.
Blues stayed tight at the back with Christoph Klarer immense and Kai Wagner not far behind. It was also good to see Bright Osayi-Samuel come on and produce a solid performance. A number of substitutions were made by both sides but this never really altered Blues’ ascendancy right up to the final whistle to garner another valuable three points.
