London Midland leaves Nuneaton in stitches

Local sewing group spreads the love in station redevelopment.

London Midland is helping Nuneaton sewing group In Stitches to bring smiles to the faces of the town’s residents.

To commemorate National Kindness Day on 13th November, the group is creating feel-good gifts and leaving them in community spaces around the town for people to discover.

The recycled ‘green’ heart-shaped tokens they are creating have been inspired by the Green Heart initiative, aimed at raising awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. Each one features an uplifting message, designed to brighten up the day of its finder.

In Stitches meets every second Monday of the month in the Station Gallery at Nuneaton station. The room was recently refurbished by London Midland and station adopters and is now an exhibition space for the local community to use.

In addition to the green hearts project, the members of the group are also exhibiting their past artwork portfolios. This has a local focus and includes textile pieces inspired by Reginald Stanley, the First World War and personal memories of the area.

Nuneaton station adopter Joanne Lole, commented: “The work of our group is often inspired by the places and people in our local area, so it has been so great to be involved in a project using craft to bring an unexpected happy moment to members of the community.

“We hope the green hearts inspire people to brighten up someone’s day by performing their own random acts of kindness and we also welcome anyone interested in joining us to get in touch. I’d also like to say a big thank you to London Midland for giving us the space in the old station café for workshops, our meetings and exhibitions such as this.”

Faye Lambert, head of community rail at London Midland, added: “As London Midland is dedicated to getting closer to the communities it serves, we are proud to support a project which is all about spreading a little love and happiness to the local people of Nuneaton.

“It has also been great to see the group transforming the unused space at the station into a hub of creativity and I would encourage everyone to visit the exhibition to see their fantastic work!”

The exhibition is being held in the Station Gallery, at Nuneaton station, on 10th, 11th and 13th November, from 10-16.00.
