City’s top retailers recognised

Awards go to Birmingham’s top sales teams.

Retailers across the city have been honoured at the prestigious Retail Birmingham Awards 2015.

Organised by Retail Birmingham, the Business Improvement District (BID) that represents over 1,000 city centre businesses, the winners were announced at a Retail Awards Winners’ Breakfast yesterday, Friday 15th May.

Hundreds of votes were received from the public, alongside nominations from store managers, and the top winners were selected by a panel of industry experts, including Jonathan Cheetham, Chair of Retail Birmingham, and Assistant Director of Employment at Birmingham City Council, Shilpi Akbar.

Marks and Spencer on High Street was applauded in two categories; Retail Team of the Year and Retail Talent of the Year, presented to Mark Guy, advisor for the foods team.
Nirmal Madahar, general manager of House of Fraser was recognised as Retail Person of the Year, while the pharmacy team at Boots on High Street was crowned Retail Team of the Year.

In addition to the category winners, 60 individuals who were nominated were also presented with recognition certificates from the judges.

Jonathan Cheetham, Chair of Retail Birmingham, said: “We had a terrific response from city centre shoppers who voted for individuals and businesses that demonstrated outstanding customer service.

“It was a very difficult task for the judges to pick the overall winners as the standards were so high and we felt all of the nominated individuals from both independent and larger retailers deserved recognition for their hard work. Congratulations to the winners, once again the awards have showcased their dedication in helping the city maintain its reputation as one of the UK’s leading shopping destinations.”
