Birmingham Ormiston Academy celebrates English literature

College presents public classics performances.

The course of true love never did run smooth… but the acting course at Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) is going from strength to strength with performances of classic English Literature in Birmingham’s streets and theatres.

Students from the top performing, creative and digital academy in Birmingham’s Eastside district have brought the best of English literature to life with live performances of the works of Shakespeare, Dickens and Austen.

The year 12 and 13 pupils entertained Saturday shoppers in Victoria Square with rousing speeches and dramatic scenes designed to highlight the beauty of the English language.

Michael Penn, assistant principal and acting teacher at BOA, said: “We have some exceptionally talented young people on our acting pathway and it’s important that we provide them with real experience of performing in front of a variety of different crowds.”

BOA’s acting students will also be bringing the works of Shakespeare to the Old Rep Theatre with performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest taking place from Wednesday 11th June*.

Gaynor Cheshire, head teacher at BOA, added: “We pride ourselves on offering our students industry standard experience which will better their chances of gaining meaningful employment after education.”
