A packed week of shows on the Belgrade Theatre’s Main Stage will help to chase away the winter blues this November with The Bootleg Sixties, Phantom and the Musicals, The Circus of Horrors and Moscow Ballet’s Nutcracker, along with a vibrant re-telling of The Canterbury Tales in B2.
Following a hugely successful performance on the Main Stage in 2010, The Bootleg Sixties returns to the Belgrade with the Sight and Sound Show on Mon 12 Nov. Starring sixties favourites, The Overtures and featuring fantastic sixties costumes and iconic songs from The Beatles, The Byrds, The Stones and The Seekers, the show promises an unforgettable journey through one of pop music’s greatest decades.
Starring Coventry-born Barry Walker and England’s premier show group Smackee, Phantom and the Musicals takes to the Main Stage on Tues 13 Nov featuring classic hits from Les Miserables, Cabaret, Joseph, Evita, Chicago, Ghost, Grease, We Will Rock You and of course Phantom of the Opera.
After impressing the judges on Britain’s Got Talent, The Circus of Horrors returns to Coventry on Weds 14 Nov with The Curse of the Devil Doll. Featuring some of the most daring and bizarre circus acts, this new show takes audiences on a journey though 1927 Berlin, between world wars in the roaring twenties and the birth of the ‘Cabaret’.
Following previous sell-out productions of Swan Lake, the world-renowned Moscow Ballet – La Classique are also returning with The Nutcracker from 15 to 17 Nov. Nutcracker is regarded as one of the jewels of classical ballet and represents a timeless tale of childhood dreams in a magical kingdom beyond imagination.
Rounding off a packed week of shows is Tacit Theatre with their take on Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales in the B2 auditorium on Weds 14 and Thurs 15 Nov. A fresh and immersive re-telling of seven of the classic stories, the show creates the atmosphere of a medieval tavern, with an informal atmosphere and live music throughout.
The landlord of the Tabard Inn, Harry Bailey, is the host for the evening, welcoming the audience as patrons of the inn to enjoy a re-enactment of the stories by a group of travelling players. The seven selected tales (The Millers, Reeve’s, Wife of Baths, Nun’s Priests, Friars, Summoner’ and Pardoner’s Tales) unfold in a new, accessible, adaptation of Chaucer’s language by Tacit Theatre’s Tom Daplyn and will be interwoven with renditions of folk music from all ages.
