Co-founder of scene-changing band Sonic Youth, Thurston Moore will be headlining a show with Michael Chapman at Glee Club Birmingham, Thursday 7th February 2013.
Thurston and Michael will be playing a full set on their own before collaborating at the end of each evening’s performance. It promises to be a rare treat for all lovers of classic, stylish and experimental guitar music and distinctly original song writing. They may seem like an unlikely couple but both have consistently stayed true to the authenticity and creativity of radical rock’n’roll idealism.
In Chapman’s case he’s been tearing up the rule book since his series of albums for the Harvest label in the 1960s and he was passionately championed by John Peel for his everyman philosophical songs. He has been confounding fans and critics ever since; Chapman has refused to slow down and has been averaging better than one album a year so far in the 21st Century. Mojo magazine concluded that every one is: “like so many Michael Chapman albums unlike any previous Michael Chapman album.”
Thurston Moore first came to prominence as one of the co-founders of the ferociously, ground-breaking Sonic Youth in New York City in the late 1970s. While Sonic Youth have remained firmly and impressively at the cutting edge ever since, Moore has also been actively engaged in a plethora of side projects as a writer, producer and musician, a fervent champion of the creative and the avant garde, as well as recording five singular solo albums to date. The most recent of these, Demolished Thoughts, was released in May 2012.
Chapman and Moore have played and recorded together on a number of occasions in the last five years but this the first time they have toured together; it presents a unique pairing of two inimitable, innovative musicians who are sure to bring out the best in each other’s playing.
