Andy Munro on Blues 1-1 draw with Charlton.
Charlton probably needed a win more than Blues did, and looked like getting it until the dependable Juke fired home so late that the Blues’ website had us losing at full time.
A home draw (if that means anything without spectators) against Charlton is nothing much to shout about but that point it gained, and the two it deprived Charlton of, will likely be enough to keep us in the Championship. With everybody in the bottom few either playing each other or against a promotion candidate, Blues should now be safe enough.
One more point point against either Preston or Derby will make us mathematically certain but, to be honest, it will be a relief to draw down the curtain on an uninspiring season.
In fairness, the team that was picked in the more comfortable 4-4-2 formation was the same one I would have chosen and, on paper, it has the look of a very decent middle of the table side. Certainly there is something for the new manager to build on and we can look towards next season with a bit of optimism. But, of course, this is the Blues that we’re talking about.
