And that’s not all. Lovers of cult sci-fi will be heading to Cosford next month.
This November, the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be transporting its visitors back in time with a weekend devoted to classic British sci-fi. Located in the Museum’s National Cold War Exhibition, the event will display puppets and memorabilia from iconic shows created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson; with visitors having the unique opportunity to view puppets of characters including the Thunderbirds, Joe 90, Steve Zodiac, Captain Scarlet and his evil nemesis Captain Black, and the Terrahawks, to name but a few. Many of the well-known puppets on display are original studio puppets which will be shown exclusively for the very first time at this weekend event. Also on display are models, costumes, full sized vehicles and sets from the classic live action shows Space 1999 and UFO.
The ‘Cosford Flights of Fantasy’ event will be open to the public on 24th and 25th November from 10:00am. Admission is free of charge. For anyone wishing to take home a piece of memorabilia, trade stands will also be present with associated merchandise from these legendary shows.
In addition to the free exhibition, on Saturday 24th November three guest speakers will be holding talks and a question & answer session for a limited number of visitors. Taking place in the National Cold War Exhibition’s bunker style Lecture Theatre, visitors will be able to meet Shane Rimmer, David Graham and Matt Zimmerman. Together these pioneering actors supplied the voices of characters including, Brains, Scott, Alan and Gordon Tracy, and Parker in Thunderbirds.
During the morning guests will talk about their outstanding careers and give people an insight into what it was like to be an integral part of these iconic shows. In the afternoon they will join forces for a Q&A session taking questions from the audience. They will then recreate some of the famous voices for which they are better known in a specially scripted live recording session. The morning talk starts at 10:30am lasting approximately 1 ½ hours and the afternoon Q&A session starts at 2:30pm lasting approximately an hour.
Admission to the talks and Q&A session on Saturday 24th November is strictly by advance ticket only and a limited number of spaces are available. Tickets cost £15.00 per person and are now on sale from the RAF Museum Cosford (not suitable for children under 5). To purchase your ticket over the phone please contact the Museum on 01902 376200.
