Blues start their season proper with a Carabao Cup win at Swansea City.
This was always going to be a difficult game with Swansea fielding the best side that they could and boasting a proud home record over the past few seasons. They had the majority of possession, a bit like Blues last season and a bit like Blues for much of last season this meant little in the final analysis.
In the first half, James Beadle was about and he certainly needed to be making a couple of smart saves but Blues caught the Swans with a sucker punch as Carlos Vicente crossed for August Priske to flick home an early season confidence builder as a goalscorer.
This gave Blues a platform for an improved second half and both Jhon Solis and Tomoki Iwata made their physical presence felt in midfield whilst Phil Neumann and Christoph Klarer were immense at the back, no doubt spurred on by the rather substantial presence of a certain Mr. Fry on the touchline.
In terms of subs, Lee Buchanan came on to show that despite a substantial time out injured, he is is a serious challenger for a spot in the team whilst Demarai Gray also provided a decent cameo to get us up the pitch.
In the final analysis it was An excellent away win, although give me three points in the league any time.
