Andy Munro sees Blues go out of the Carabao Cup at home to Brentford.
This was a performance lacking in numerous ways with the only consolation being that we can concentrate on (staying in!) the Championship. Brentford were a yard quicker in all departments and most of the Blues players struggled against the Premier League side’s superior pace and movement.
There were a few exceptions, with Dimmy Gray not only scoring but always on the move looking for opportunities and Osayi Samuel generally holding his own. Unfortunately, Ryan Allsop in goal looked rusty and rarely commanded his area while Christoph Klarer now knows what the top flight is all about as his usual dominance was nullified by the pace of Brentford’s attack.
Klarer’s partner Dael Fry also showed his lack of game time and Kristoffer Lund looks a very inferior replacement for Kai Wagner.
Further forward Kanya Fujimoto surely confirmed that he can’t cut it at a decent level whilst Paik Seung-ho struggled to impose himself, although credit to Jhon Solis who battled hard throughout.
Out wide, whilst Gray was decent, as mentioned, Carlos Vicente again never really got to the byline and generally struggled to make an impression. Up top the question must be why did we sign probably the most mediocre Argentinian centre-forward ever to have pulled on a Boca Juniors shirt, namely Luis Vazquez.
Who’s behind such signings is a mystery and if we don’t get a result from the Wrexham match before we are thrown to the Wolves the following week then maybe Chris Davies will be rooting out a P45. Sean Dyche, anyone?
