Blues make a point (to sum up the season)

Blues end 2025-26 with a draw at Portsmouth, watched by Andy Munro.

Blues may have finished in their highest position since the halcyon days of Chris Hughton but there is still a slight underwhelming feeling given our substantial spending sprees during the season.

It was a fairly even game against Pompey but also featured a recent welcome trend of having less possession but more shots, more shots on target and more corners than the opposition – a ‘new’ and exciting tactic that Chris Davies has just cottoned onto after almost two years in charge.

However, to be positive it was heartening to see August Priske on the scorecard with a well-timed header and hopefully this will now stand his confidence in good stead for next season. In support, both wingers were dangerous although their final ball was often a bit wayward.

With regard to our loanees, most Blues fans hope to see both Jhon Solis and Ibrahim Osman back next season, although for the latter it will probably need to be another loan given his hefty price tag whilst the former may be within our financial reach, Tom Wagner permitting.

Tommy Doyle came on to show he is no more than decent, so will undoubtedly revert to being a Wolves player next season. On the bright side, the back four held up well with Kai Wagner oozing class and both Phil Neumann and Christoph Klarer continuing to build on their partnership and mutual understanding, which augurs well for next season

So, some reasons to be cheerful and Chris Davies will be hoping that this will also be Tom Wagner’s view!
