Valiants hold on for a point.

Andy Munro sees Blues draw with Charlton.

Without being near their best, Blues should have easily secured three points against a very average Charlton side. In fairness to the Blues, the main contributory factors to them dropping points were a coat of paint on the woodwork and an abysmal referee who should have sent at least one player off, not least when Marvin Ducksch was cynically brought down – the Duck being in full flight.

However for most Blues players, it was a fairly mediocre display with the exception of Demarai Gray, who was never afraid to take on his marker, and another excellent performance from Tommy Doyle who was behind most of Blues best moves. Of the subs, Lyndon Dykes was decent and Keshi Anderson at least tried to take the opposition on.

Not so impressive was a lacklustre Jay Stansfield (although he never stopped trying) while Phil Neumann and Paik Seung-ho, who were both at best mediocre. Christoph Klarer probably deserved to be the man of the match with his superb headed goal and general play, albeit he was isolated and beaten by the Charlton winger who crossed the ball for their equaliser.

A word also for Ryan Alsopp, who had little to do in the Blues goal but caused a few heart-stopping moments when he played the ball short.

Overall, this was a disappointing display, particularly as it followed some very decent home performances and with some challenging fixtures on the horizon the team will need to pull their proverbial socks up to stay in promotion contention.
