Andy Munro sees Blues beat Watford at St Andrews.
Just to recall Sir Elton of Watford’s hit single, that must have been the feeling in the Hornets dressing room after they lost this closely-contested game.
However, whilst Watford shaded the shots ratio, Blues had more possession and better shots accuracy. Two superb finishes by Paik Seung-ho and Demarai Gray lit up the first half with the latter’s a definite candidate for goal of the season. Jay Stansfield, as usual never stopped running and, apart from laying on one goal, must have been a man of the match candidate
Perhaps the most impressive feature, however, was the control Paik and Coyle had of midfield with the latter coming into his own as he continually proved forward playing on the front foot.
Watford were dangerous on the break and the home side have James Beadle to thank for one excellent save and general control of any aerial issues. The visitors did get a goal back but Christoph Klarer again set an example, winning everything in the air ably supported by Neumann whilst Alex Cochrane had another steady game.
Also credit to both Dykes (rapidly becoming a cult figure worthy of his own song by the Tilton choir) and the hardworking Anderson, who helped close the show to move Blues just outside the play-off positions.
