Lions tamed

On a soggy night at St Andrews Andy Munro is warmed by Blues beating Millwall.

This was a complete performance by Blues. If you had bet on them getting two four-goal victories in succession three games ago, the odds would have been equal to Nigel Farage turning Communist. It was even rumoured that the archetypical miserable git Alex O’Neil will be giving out some credit to the opposition.

After a bit of early nip and tuck, Blues opened the scoring when Paik Seung-ho scored yet another goal after coming out of a barren period when some bluenoses were beginning to doubt him. Blues then doubled their lead when Demarai Gray was on hand to score following good work from the excellent Jay Stansfield. It was good to see Martin Ducksch being instrumental in many of Blues best moves, quietly going about his business and showing an excellent understanding with Stansfield.

The third goal from Alex Cochrane was a real cracker, something the Scot keeps quietly in his locker, and then it was fitting that top scorer Stansfield weighed in with a fourth.

This was a superb performance from all the team and some points in terms of newbies are that we have a young keeper who is now challenging the excellent Ryan Allsop. We’ve got a proper quality centre-forward now showing his pedigree, a genuine midfield schemer in Tommy Doyle and last but not least an electric wide player in Patrick Roberts.

Given the fairly narrow differential between the top of the division, with Coventry and Middlesbrough dropping points, and the basement, if Blues go on a run then at least a top six position remains a real possibility.
