As Blues are beaten at home by Hull City, Andy Munro starts to get concerned.
As usual, all the stats pointed to a Blues win but yet again the game was squandered due to inept defending and missed chances. Twice the number of shots and almost twice the possession but in the final analysis that meant nothing as Blues let three points go begging.
Blues defence looked shaky at times and one wonders whether Alex Cochrane is out of his depth at Championship level or whether Jack Robinson should be preferred to flagship signing Phil Neumann. This was more pertinent given the former’s disastrous contribution of a needless red card and a perhaps slightly unfortunate own goal.
Elsewhere Tomoki Iwata is definitely wasted at the back as usually he is a vital defensive midfield shield giving Paik Seung-heo room to roam.
Either way, Blues were generally mediocre despite their statistical dominance although there were a few exceptions. Patrick Roberts was excellent throughout and there can be no complaints about Jay Stansfield, who as usual battled away unselfishly and fully deserved his two goals.
At the back, Christoph Klarer was his normal impervious self when all around him was uncertainty, Blues were actually and pleasantly more direct but their poor defensive play must be a cause for concern. In addition, Kyogo Furuhashi came on to miss an absolute sitter although, to be fair, he had made the chance himself
Two away games coming up and if we don’t win at least one of them, we will be well and truly in the footballing mire. Chris Davies may already be starting to look nervously over his shoulder, particularly as he has recently had the dreaded vote of confidence from the board.
