Blues outwitted by Foxes

Andy Munro sees Blues go down to Leicester City.

After a disappointing cup loss against lowly Port Vale, Blues followed up with a punchless display against promotion favourites Leicester

As usual, Blues has more possession, shots and corners but Leicester came up with the goods when it mattered. In fact, there were few bright spots in terms of player performances in the away side.

At the back, the much-vaunted Phil Neumann again looked suspect whilst the recently impressive Etahn Laird was back to his defensively suspect self and certainly had a negative hand in the Leicester opener. Bright Osayi-Samuel and Christoph Klarer were the pick in the defence but that is not saying much

In the middle, whilst Tomoki Iwata worked hard as usual, albeit with little effect, Paik Seung-ho seemed a bit overwhelmed and failed to stamp his usual authority. We certainly missed Jay Stanfield with Marvin Ducksch looking ponderous when he replaced Kyogo Furuhashi, himself lightweight and generally ineffective.

Both were worrying in terms of where future goals are going to come from an probably the few bright spots came from young loanee Lewis Koumas, who never stopped battling, and Demarai, Gray who despite an injury kept probing throughout the game.

Blues’ lack of a finishing product can partly be put down to the amount of time it took to work the ball up the pitch and although the possession game is the Davies philosophy, one wonders whether a more direct approach has to be taken to avoid what is becoming a predictable approach.

A bad day at the office, a reality check or just a blip? Time will tell.
