Tired and weary?

Andy Munro sees Blues break another record in beating Cambridge United.

This was not one of Blues’ best performances of the season, despite it setting a points record that will probably never be beaten. The game also showed that this side will need some strengthening if we want to seriously challenge in the Championship.

A poor first-half was caused by a combination of Blues looking tired and lacklustre whilst Cambridge, already certainties for relegation, were able to play without pressure and with an opportunity for an iconic win before slipping down to the league below.

It was notable that in the first half, Ryan Allsop was probably one of our best players as our goal was peppered by Cambridge. When we scored it was a fluke from Christoph Klarer who was so surprised he didn’t bother to celebrate and with Cambridge deservedly equalising, it was all to play for in the second period.

Luckily Blues bucked up in the second period partly sparked by the introduction of Tomochi Iwata who must, alongside Klarer and Allsop, be a candidate for Blues player of the season.

The other major influence in a second-half turnaround was the introduction of the Juke who played like a man with a mission when he came on for a cameo performance . Whilst he didn’t score he was certainly an influence in forcing an own goal in the closing stages to give Blues what was probably an undeserved win. Mind you, the record books won’t care!
