A very Lush event

Helen Annetts goes Rewild, thanks to Lush Spa Birmingham.

Having just celebrated a significant birthday – not that one, go higher, the next significant birthday – when you are offered a Rewilding Facial you jump at the chance. And let me tell you, I skipped out of Lush Spa Birmingham with a face that felt revived, fresh, plump and lifted which was exactly what it needed.

Lush Spa Birmingham are launching their Rewilding Facial to coincide with World Rewilding Day on 20 March. The treatment is a 50-minute lifting facial spa with ingredients that help rewild habitats across the globe and fresh formulas that provide nourishment to the skin.

On arrival, once you’ve negotiated the chaos of New Street and made your way through the Lush store – which I often find overwhelming in terms of colour, smell, choice – you are welcomed into a quiet upstairs corner. Once you enter the doors of the Spa the contrast is incredible. It’s quiet, calm, cosy. There are plants, flowers and fruit everywhere and you instantly forget the hubbub of the city centre.

My therapist, Camilla, led me to a table with a slate board where each element of the facial was laid out – lotions, soaps, facemasks. Camilla expertly talked me through each of the treatments to come and I have to say, new to facials I found this a brilliant approach. It settles you into the space and it’s great to see – and smell – the actual products that will be used. It gives you a sense of what to expect. You learn about the journey of the ingredients themselves and the journey they will take you on.

The facial took place in a low lit, cosy room. Half sitting, half laying the bed was heated with the cosy blanket covering me. Instantly relaxing, like being in a comfy cocoon. And then the treatment began and my face was cleansed and massaged by hand and warming mitts; a face mask was applied along with a massage to the face, neck and shoulders; a serum was applied and my face manipulated more – vigorously but not painfully – and then the final cold therapy which had been cooling throughout – you start the cooling process yourself as part of your initial conversation.

There is a bespoke Lush soundtrack that accompanies the treatment, created especially for the Rewilding Facial. I arrived and left to the sound of bird calls with everything from earthy, tree themed folk songs to rain and forest sounds in between. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it, it added to a sense of immersive experience.

There is no way I can recall all the ingredients or the expert techniques used, you can read all the details here – I would strongly recommend you take a look at the full range of treatments on offer – they all look great. If you visit Lush Spa Birmingham I would definitely recommend Camilla as your therapist.

The Rewilding Facial is priced at £150 – I was lucky enough to be offered the treatment as a PR invite – and I have to say before my visit I did wonder at this cost and whilst I do think it’s on the high side the treatment does feel like the ultimate treat. My face is definitely grateful.

If you are looking to rejuvenate, refresh and lift your face then the Rewilding Facial is perfect, a real treat for my skin and I am pretty sure everything looks brighter and tighter. I strongly suspect I will be making a return visit at some point – my face deserves continued rewilding.
