A Lushious experience

Helen Annetts gets ready for Autumn at the Lush Spa.

With Autumn officially upon us I headed to Lush Birmingham, with long-time friend and new addition to Birmingham, Adria (a new student at Birmingham City University, choosing landlocked Brum over her seaside town), to sample the delights of Lush’s Halloween and Festive ranges.

As soon as you arrive at Lush the smells are upon you, so it was lovely to have a guided tour with the Lush team Abi and Ati to understand the smells, products and Lush’s approach to sustainable ingredients and packaging.

First up we headed to the new handmade Festive range which included scents from peppermint to chocolate orange to s’mores. Products include the classic Snow Fairy bath bomb, which is unbelievably 25 years old, and totally cute Penguin bath bomb and a glittery almond smelling star bubble bar.

Next, we headed to the Lush Spa. I’ve been lucky enough to visit previously and let me tell you, when you step through those spa doors it is a calming oasis of smells, music and comfort that feels miles away from the City Centre.

The team talked us through the different massages and facials on offer all with their own purpose, their own products and scents and amazingly all with their own original soundtrack! Not the usual sounds of waterfalls and trees, the music is created specifically to accompany the treatment and the snippets we heard sound amazing.

I don’t think enough people know about the Lush Spa, I strongly recommend you make a visit. We were treated to a hand and arm massage just to ease away the stresses of the day. Head into Lush and head upstairs to find out more for yourself.

Finally, we headed to the Halloween range, of course there are bath bombs in every conceivable Halloween shape but the most weird and wonderful item was the Carefree Spirit Shower Jelly, think part ghost part octopus, like a wobbly tactile ghost that you can hold in your hand but that will melt under warm water – weird and wonderful, perfect for the season.

Best of all we got hands on and made our very own Pumkin bath bomb. Now it’s fair to say even with a mold and instructions it is pretty hard to do, if you are like me and not very dextrous, not if you are like Adria who created something they could literally have sold on the shop floor!

The message throughout is that Lush is totally ethical in its approach, from making things by hand, minimising the impact on the environment both in terms of the products they harvest and the packaging – for many products if you return the packaging to store, you will get a percentage off your refill!

We were lucky enough to take away a selection of products to try at home – including our own made Pumpkin Bath Bombs and will be back soon to try out the Lush Spa.

There is something for everyone at Lush, a smell for everyone, a product for everyone. Go have a look for yourself.

We were invited to a PR Experience.
