Millers ground down

Andy Munro watches Blues beat Rotherham United.

For over an hour, mid-table Rotherham proved a hard nut to crack and taking the lead made it harder for Blues. It was most unlike the team to concede as they did from a corner, for which you probably need to blame the home side’s normally reliable central defenders. Whilst Blues themselves had a couple of excellent first half chances, they were foiled by both good goalkeeping and wayward shooting.

Many called for half-time changes but manager Chris Davies kept to the same set-up and it paid off when Jay Stansfield scored from close in, which will do his confidence the world of good.

Davies did make changes and when Stansfield scored from the spot things had completely turned around. It has to be said that the penalty was debatable but in fairness to Blues a bit earlier they had a cast iron shout for one ignored.

In terms of stand-out-performances there were a few. Ryan Allsop’s distribution was immaculate, Ben Davies was imperious behind Christoph Klarer and even cleared one off the line. However the stars of the show were the full-backs, who overlapped at will, particularly Ethan Laird, who was unlucky not to score, whilst in front of them Toomoki Iwata was perpetual motion.

Further upfield Keshi Anderson had an excellent game before getting a knock and being substituted whilst substitute Scott Wright seemed to have regained his mojo, taking on his man at every opportunity.
