The end of an error

Andy Munro comments on Wayne Rooney’s sacking.

The news of Wayne Rooney’s sacking seemed to catch us all by surprise, despite the old saying that once the away fans turn then the end can’t be far off. The Blues administration suddenly threw in the towel on what had become an ill-judged appointment and one only hopes the Rooney Rat Pack of John O’Shea and Ashley Cole will swiftly follow. Rooney has complained that it was premature whilst most Bluenoses would feel that he has been given enough rope to hang himself twice over.

More importantly, who will be his successor? Will it be a footballing salvage expert along the lines of Neil Warnock or Tony Mowbray in order to make sure relegation is avoided? Or will the owners be thinking longer-term and go for a relative newcomer to club management like Lee Carsley? Perhaps they will push the boat out and try to attract a comparatively young and hungry yet proven manager such as Graham Potter, Steve Cooper or Ralph Hasenhuttl.

I hope that it’s one of the latter but either way we need somebody in quick to both turn it round and to take advantage of a limited transfer window.

Only at the Blues!!!
