Bookshops and music venue combine for new festival

Funding confirmed for inaugural Literature & Music Festival in Kings Heath.

The Heath Bookshop along with partners the Hare & Hounds and children’s bookshop How Brave is the Wren has announced that funding is confirmed for their inaugural Literature & Music Festival taking place in Kings Heath from 18th–21st April 2024.

The festival will be supported using public funding by National Lottery through Arts Council England and will feature author events for young and old, music events and new artistic commissions that celebrate the connections between literature and music through spoken word, film, dance and sound.

Catherine and Claire, co-owners at The Heath Bookshop said: “We are thrilled to announce our first Literature & Music Festival, happening at our shop and with our friends at the Hare & Hounds and How Brave is the Wren. Our aim is to continue to celebrate all that is best about books, literature and music whilst also shining a spotlight on Kings Heath. We are working hard on the programme – expect big names, familiar faces and new commissions – and we look forward to announcing more next year. For now, make sure you have the dates in your diary.”

The Heath Bookshop Literature & Music Festival will run from 18th–21st April and take place across numerous venues in Kings Heath including The Heath Bookshop, How Brave is the Wren and the Hare & Hounds. With author events, children’s activities and music gigs, this will be a diverse and entertaining festival that will appeal to the whole community of Kings Heath, and beyond.

The Heath Bookshop is based in Kings Court a lovely courtyard area off the main high street in Kings Heath. It’s run by two book nerds Catherine Gale and Claire Dawes who are always ready to welcome visitors to the shop with general book chat and a cuppa.
