After a decent run of form for Blues, travelling up to Middlesbrough was a banana skin waiting to happen and it ran much as feared.
With a small squad giving John Eustace little room to manoeuvre, there are always going to be matches when a lack of energy becomes an issue and this was such an example. Unusually Blues had more possession and pass completion than Boro but in the EFL this means little as the team huffed and puffed with little effect.
Few players came out with much credit against a home side who were there for the taking if Blues had shown more ambition. Exceptions were the dependable John Ruddy in goal and a more than decent performance from Jordan Graham
Changes beckon for Saturdays forthcoming fixture against Bristol City and perhaps some of the talented youngsters might be worth a start, bringing if nothing else some youthful energy onto the pitch.
