Birmingham nightlife resumes as lockdown eased

Thousands enjoy Westside as hospitality reopens on Birmingham’s golden mile.

There may have been a slight chill in the air, but the atmosphere soon warmed up on Westside as hospitality venues reopened to the public.

Bars and restaurants with outdoor spaces on Birmingham’s ‘golden mile’ in and around Broad Street welcomed back thousands of customers throughout the day and evening on Monday 12th April.

The safe socialising will continue today and from now on as the latest stage in the government’s relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions settles down.

Mike Olley, general manager of Westside BID, said: “The sun was shining for much of the day and it was wonderful to see people out and about enjoying themselves.

“Most importantly, all Westside’s bars and restaurants were making sure they were safely serving customers, with clear guidance on where to sit, how to approach the loos and when to wear masks.

“I’m so proud of the whole district for the highly professional way they’ve reopened and welcomed people back, and we’re now looking forward to when people can socialise inside again in May.”
