It’s not over until

Andy Munro peers at Blues’ draw with Wigan.

It’s not over until the fat lady sings and this was never truer than at the Wigan Pier Show. To be brutal, Blues didn’t nearly nick the match through sparkling football and atrocious luck. Instead it was the usual Gary Rowett tactics of getting down in the trenches and repelling the stormtroopers.

Blues kept an unchanged side and I have no major criticism of the manager for going down that particular road. However, we served up the usual grim fare and to make matters worse Clayton Donaldson missed a penalty only to be bailed out by the onrushing Davies. The question must now be asked of Donaldson…”are you James Vaughan in disguise?”

Both our new players got a cameo appearance but could hardly be expected to make a stunning debut given the limited time we were on the pitch. But here’s my beef. If Blues were playing away at Newcastle or Brighton or Derby, Rowett’s continual refrain that we are one of the paupers and have to cut our tactical cloth accordingly, is something we could all understand but Wigan hardly come into the Championship galactico class.

To be honest I recognised no household names and Will Grigg who was apparently troublesome was, it appears, apparently a youth product who never made it at Blues. Typically our nemesis who scored their last gasp equaliser was Craig Davies (no, not the singer although his singing is enough to alarm anybody trying to concentrate on their game) but the ex-Bolton forward who apparently lives just up the road from St Andrews and often has his haircut at a barbers just around the corner.

However, the main point is that Blues now have enough creative and talented attacking options to be a bit brave against the Wigans of this world but for some reason Gary Rowett doesn’t want to let his footballing hair down.
