All that jazz

Top young line-up for weekend jazz.

Birmingham Jazz present a top-quality event on Friday as they welcome a local rising star who is much in demand both a band leader and as band member. The Nick Dewhurst Quintet mix sparking originals with standards.

Formed in 2015 for a performance at the Lichfield Blues and Jazz Festival, the band brings together all of Nick’s favourite elements of jazz: proper melodies, juicy harmony, infectious grooves, soaring solos, and great friends. The quintet comprises a hard bop influenced trumpet and tenor sax lead, supported by a modern sounding rhythm section of piano/keys, electric and double bass, and drums.

Nick, a recognised jazz trumpeter and music educator in the Midlands, graduate of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, current lead trumpet of the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra, and award winning 1st Class Honours Degree Graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire, will be bringing his band to Birmingham Jazz and performing a fun programme of originals and standards.

The line up for this performance is: Nick Dewhurst: trumpet & flugelhorn; Callum Roxburgh: tenor saxophone; Tom Lindsay: piano/keys; Tom Moore: electric/double bass and Carl Hemmingsley: drums
