An online survey has been launched with the answers set to shape the future of policing.
The survey forms the backbone of West Midlands Police’s consultation process for the 2015 Police and Crime Plan.
The plan is used by the Police and Crime Commissioner to hold senior police officers to account for their performance in targeting criminals and protecting residents.
Last year thousands of people completed the survey which identified safeguarding the most vulnerable in society as just one of the key priorities of local people.
As a result, the force launched a far-reaching campaign to break the silence surrounding issues such as child sexual exploitation and female genital mutilation.
Police officers, social workers and other child protection specialists also started to work together under one roof in Birmingham in a so-called ‘multi-agency safeguarding hub’. The move is set to improve information sharing about children at risk and provided a fast and targeted response to individual needs.
Other issues identified by local people included driving down violence, stopping re-offending and targeting burglars and robbers.
Deputy Chief Constable Dave Thompson said: “This is a real opportunity for people who live, work and visit the West Midlands to tell us what really matters to them.
“As public servants it is vital that we are listening to the policing needs of those we serve so that we can provide a service responsive to local needs.
“I’d urge anyone who is passionate about policing to use this opportunity to have their say and shape the way in which our officers police their streets.”

“They are key to addressing local priorities, building pride in our police and supporting economic development. This is your opportunity to make sure that we know what matters to you, so that the end results will accurately reflect your priorities.
“I encourage everybody to complete this survey if you have an interest in making our communities safer.”
