A’Rovering

Andy Munro has finally summoned up the words to describe Blues draw at home to  Doncaster.

It was never going to be easy against a side who had just beaten Harry’s mercenaries,  and in the vein of Blues current home form it predictably wasn’t. The crowd was poor with Donnie bringing just four coaches and a minibus whilst the home support could have gone home in the proverbial taxi. Maybe it’s because it’s the season of Father Christmas or maybe it’s because our current Santa is a Hong Kong hairdresser.

Lee Cee only made one change and surprisingly that was to bring in Aaron McLean rather than restore Chris Burke. Otherwise, thankfully, he didn’t tinker with the team. Whatever Lee Clark or the Evening Mail said, the first quarter was turgid with two poor teams failing to cause any real goalmouth excitement. However, Blues then took the game by the scruff of the neck and their opener was superbly worked. An absolute peach of a cross field ball from the outstanding Hancox found Lee Novak in oceans of space, which is normally what he needs. However, fair play to Novak, he still had a bit to do, controlling the ball well and smashing it home.

It seemed like a second goal must come with further Blues pressure, so the racks of pipes and slippers could be rolled out. Unfortunately it was not to be and we were made to pay for a lacklustre second half when Dave Whoooo? cracked home a great shot with the Blues in front of him seemingly retreating Custer style.

In fairness, we woke up in the last ten minutes and poured on the pressure but it was to no avail. Again, with a below par  Linguard and McClean taken off it left the badly balanced combo of Ziggy to knock the ball onto a less than quick Novak. In the round, Randolph made a couple of superb saves and the back four were excellent with the marauding Hancox and the prolific (?) Caddis also adding a lot going forward. However , offensively we were disappointing and without wingers unbalanced. Mind you, when Burke came on Blues failed too often to give him the service out wide.

I think the jury’s out on McClean who seems to be a mini Cameron Jerome lacking a level of guile to match his speed. This also pushes Linguard either wide or into the hole when he should be playing off Ziggy.

Still at least we didn’t lose and it’s not the worst recording that I’ve seen on the dismalometer that is Blues home form.
