Awesome October fun in Southside

Birmingham’s Southside district will be keeping visitors entertained this October with some fabulous and frightening fun.

Kicking off the Halloween celebrations with the launch of Birmingham’s first horror maze, The Morgue Live. Open from Friday 4th October–Saturday 2nd November on Hurst Street, The Morgue Live is a pop up attraction with special effects and live actors that will take you on a spooky journey to face your worst fears.

Horrible Histories will be live on stage at the Old Rep for a special production of Ruthless Romans from Tuesday 8th–Saturday 19th October. From evil emperors to gruesome gladiators, Ruthless Romans will take you on a jaw dropping adventure with Julius Caesar, Queen Boudicca and the sword-slaying Spartacus to discover the horrible history of Britain.

One of the most vibrant venues in the Village, the Nightingale Club will be bringing the crowds to the dance floor this October with its special X Factor performances. Home to the X Factor live finalists from 19th October, each Saturday the Nightingale will treat party-goers to music from the freshest musical talent from the ITV show.

Birmingham Hippodrome will be lighting up Southside with three fantastic days of dance, projection and light at its Illuminate event. From Friday 25th–Sundayth 27 October, Illuminate will showcase outdoor light artworks in and around the Hippodrome Square. Part of the Family Arts Campaign, Illuminate will dazzle visitors with a 360 degree film igloo and the famous Lanterns of Terracotta Warriors Exhibition from Shanghai.

Birmingham Beer and Cider Festival will be visiting Southside from Thursday 31st October–Saturday 2nd November. Hosted at the Second City Suite on Sherlock Street, the fourth annual ticketed event will feature a huge selection of over 250 beers and 80 ciders from the UK and beyond. There will be some tantalising entertainment from acts including Carousel Circus, Thirsty Work and the Broombusters across the weekend, while Roger Protz, editor of the best-selling annual Good Beer Guide and leading light in tthe Campaign for Real Ale will be hosting beer tasting sessions on Thursday 31st October.
