Winners named in 2013 English Curry Awards

Success for local restaurant.

A Birmingham restaurant is celebrating winning an award at the prestigious English Curry Awards 2013. The winners of the third annual awards were announced at an event held at the Salford City Stadium in Manchester.

There were thirteen categories presented on the night and while the West Midlands’ strong tradition of Asian restaurants was mainly overlooked, the award for best restaurant design went to the Rajdoot Tandoori, in George Street, Birmingham.

Other awards included overall winner Shimla Spice in West Yorkshire, Curry Lover of the Year which went to marketing group Visit Bradford while Stephen Gomes of Meluha in Bristol was named Chef of the Year. The event also raised over £2,000 for the Awards’ official charity partner, the well Foundation.

Yasmin Mahmood, of event organisers Oceanic Consulting, said “It was a fantastic evening and I would like to thank everyone for attending and a big thank you to our sponsors. Congratulations to all our winner and finalists, and I hope to see you next year!”
