Police are appealing for witnesses after a series of unconnected accidents in the early hours of Sunday morning left two dead and several people seriously injured.

At around 2am, police were called to Coventry Road in Yardley, Birmingham following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a motorcycle. The pedestrian, a man in his forties was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men on the motorcycle were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The men, both in their twenties, remain at hospital in a critical condition. Coventry Road has now re-opened.

Less than an hour later at 2:50am, the collision investigation team received reports of a cyclist with serious head injuries in Handworth, Birmingham. The 42 year old man remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital. PC Paul Cope from Collision Investigation Unit said: “It is not yet known how the man came to sustain his injuries, whether he fell from his bike or collided with another vehicle. Inquiries are still ongoing and anyone with information is urged to call 101.”

At 3:45am, police were called by then ambulance service to the A4123 Birmingham Road, in Coseley, Wolverhampton following reports of a collision between a car and a lamppost. A woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men in their thirties who were also in the car were taken to hospital with injuries. They remain in a serious but stable condition. Wolverhampton Road has now re-opened.
