Local hero set for Jam

Birmingham-born reggae star Basil Gabbidon and his Gabbidon band are heading to leading live music venue The Jam House on Thursday 22nd August.

Award-winning guitarist and vocalist Basil Gabbidon first rose to fame in the 1970s as the founding member of world renowned reggae band Steel Pulse, which enjoyed commercial success with its first studio album Handsworth Revolution. Steel Pulse were also the first non-Jamaican act to win the Grammy  for Best Reggae Album in 1988.

Handsworth-based Basil, who has performed with the Police, the Stranglers and Bob Marley, is now back on the road with his band promoting his latest album Reggae Child. Featuring Basil’s brother Colin on drums and daughter Candice on vocals, Gabbidon’s new sound is a modern take on classic reggae beats with a hint of rock and a twist of dance.

John Bunce, General Manager at The Jam House in St Paul’s Square, said: “We’re pleased to be welcoming such phenomenal local talent like Basil Gabbidon back this August. Our customers can look forward to an evening of classic reggae anthems as well as exciting new material .”

Tickets to see Gabbidon cost £5 and are available  from www.thejamhouse.com
