Charlotte Beesley and Alanna Wall, both aged 16, and Will Hughes and Ben Perrins, both 17 – all members of the Senior Saxophone Quartet – will team up with the Halesowen-based saxophonist for his Valentine Show at Solihull Arts Complex on February 14.

The invitation follows the students’ success in winning the Open Instrumental Ensemble Class with Distinction at the recent Lichfield Music Festival.

The Quartet also achieved top marks in their ABRSM Intermediate Ensemble Exam – the first time Solihull School pupils have entered the 18-minute exam programme for candidates of an exceptionally high Grade 6-7 standard.

Solihull School’s Saxophone Group Director Christa Greswold said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the group. Their competition and exam success have been thoroughly well deserved.

“The Quartet drew special praise at the festival for ‘sensitive playing’ and being ‘a very well honed ensemble’ – and their subsequent invitation to perform with Julian Smith has been the icing on the cake.”

The Lichfield Music Festival draws competitors from across the West Midlands and other parts of England and Wales.

Tickets for Julian Smith’s Valentine Show on Monday, February 14 at 7.30pm are available, priced at £14, by calling the box office on 0121 704 6962.
