Knick Knack and Doo Dad – Reasons to be Cheerful

This winter, mac birmingham presents a tale of friendship set on an island of rubbish with Knick Knack and Doo Dad – Reasons to be Cheerful.

Knick Knack and Doo Dad – Reasons to be CheerfulIn this brand new show from Lyngo Theatre, children and adults will join shipwrecked heroes Knick Knack and Doo Dad on the huge pile of non-recycled junk they call home to discover how to celebrate the festive season without shops or money.

Knick Knack has been alone for a very long time with just a stuffed dummy for a best friend. Will the arrival of Doo Dad on the island be able to make him smile again? And how will they celebrate Christmas when they can’t buy presents and decorations?

The pair may have been forgotten about, but they love to invent things and so turn the unwanted scrap around them into brilliant imaginative inventions to help solve the problems caused by their smelly surroundings. In Knick Knack and Doo Dad’s world, telephones can become showers, umbrellas can transform into kites and shoes can turn back into telephones. Gradually the pair will make the island a better, and much less stinky, place to live and Knick Knack just might get his smile back.

Starring CBeebies’ Patrick Lynch (presenter of Let’s Celebrate and Razzle Dazzle) and Carlo Rossi who appeared on Melavisione (the most-watched children’s programme in Italy) for 10 years, Knick Knack and Doo Dad will teach audiences how to have fun no matter where they find themselves. Knick Knack and Doo Dad – Reasons to be Cheerful provides inspirational ideas for children and families in these cash-strapped times.

The show carries environmental messages and will feature the same playful interactivity which made their last production Snow Play such a hit with families. Audience members will receive a bag at the beginning of the show filled with recycled objects which will be used at points throughout the performance – with bits which make noises and things which can be used physically as part of the show.

Patrick Lynch commented: “We are really excited to be bringing Knick Knack and Doo Dad – Reasons to be Cheerful to mac birmingham this winter and can’t wait for everyone to join us on Knick Knack and Doo Dad’s island of waste to see what we can find – and more importantly, all the brilliant things we can do with it! We wish you a smelly Christmas!”

Knick Knack and Doo Dad – Reasons to be Cheerful is part of ‘mac at fifty’ – a series of exhibitions, activities and events to mark mac birmingham’s 50th anniversary of providing arts for all.

Dorothy Wilson MBE, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of mac birmingham, commented: “We’re delighted to have this fantastic new show from Lyngo Theatre as part of our mac at fifty programme. Lyngo has a solid reputation for producing fun and imaginative shows and we’re sure Knick Knack and Doo Dad – Reasons to be Cheerful will continue to build on that, giving children and families an immensely enjoyable experience that they will share and remember for years to come.”
