The new show, on Thursday 14th October will continue the venue’s Town Hall Talk season, which started with Michael Portillo before the pandemic halted shows last year.

The Labour Party politician became the MP for the Birmingham constituency at the 2015 general election. She has committed her life to improving the lives of others, especially the most vulnerable. Before becoming an MP, Jess worked for Women’s Aid in Sandwell developing services for victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence, human trafficking and exploitation. She became a councillor in 2012 and was recognised for her work supporting residents by being made Birmingham’s first ever Victims Champion.

Unfazed by threats and earning a reputation for plain speaking, Jess continues as an MP to support those who need it, particularly calling out sexist attitudes and promoting women’s rights. As well as concentrating on issues of domestic violence and violence against women, Jess’s speeches and books inspire people to have the courage to speak up and make a difference.

Sutton Coldfield Town Hall, which lit the Town Hall Orange last November in recognition of the UN’s Campaign against Gender Violence, is committed to reflecting issues in the world through events, partnerships, art and education. It is working on its speaker programme for 2022 and will continue to attract vibrant speakers to Sutton Coldfield, bringing with them a range of expertise and topics. Many will include book signings, which will take place the hour before the speaker session. Talks normally run for one hour, followed by a Q&A. There is normally a chance for audience members to meet, reflect and discuss the night over a drink after the show.
