Blues go down 3-0 at Watford but Andy Munro isn’t too downhearted.
To be honest, I never expected to get a result against Watford and I’d take three points against Reading rather than two draws. However, considering we had more shots than the home side (even though most ended up in Row Z), it was disappointing to lose by three goals. Watford were just more clinical, still showing their recent Premier League pedigree.
Yet, even though it was an unfair reflection on the passages of play, we aren’t doing enough in the penalty area despite a decent level of crosses coming in from Jeremie Bela and Alen Halovic.
On that topic, nobody should question Scott Hogan’s work rate but at the moment, shooting-wise he can’t even make an acquaintance with a barn door. So, maybe it’s time to give our £2 million ‘marquee’ signing Sam Cosgrove a whirl from the start and bring on Hogan later in the game. Alternatively, give a slightly reborn Jonathan Leko a go up front as he played successfully under the new gaffer at Charlton.
In defence, I think it’s worth sticking with what we’ve got, even the recently maligned Neil Etheridge, apart from bringing in George Friend at left-back for the errant Kristian Pedersen, who seems to be following Bojo’s socially distancing plea to the letter when it comes to marking the opposition.
Will we stay up? That’s a real 50:50 question but we have still got Wycombe and Sheffield Wednesday’s fate in our hands and although Rotherham can easily catch us, luckily Coventry and Derby are easily within our sights. It’s all about getting the points.
