Inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Young people from state schools across Birmingham and beyond are invited to explore careers in healthcare and STEM at Generation Medics’ inaugural health careers event on 27th June in Birmingham.
Set to be the largest event of its kind, the UK Aspiring Healthcare Professionals Conference will give 12-18-year-olds the opportunity to try their hand at real clinical procedures and hear from NHS leaders to help them explore the exciting work of doctors, nurses, dentists, paramedics and hundreds more medical professionals.
Many young people are unaware that the NHS is the largest UK employer and has over 350 different roles available and those from state-schools often find it difficult to access information, advice and opportunities that could help them succeed. Generation Medics’ founder Dr Hinnah Rafique, an NHS England Fellow and University Lecturer explained, “We’ve designed this event to bridge the opportunity gap. There are hundreds of careers available in the Healthcare and STEM sectors but young people can’t aspire to what they don’t know.
“Through this conference and our wider programmes, Generation Medics is levelling the playing field so that young people can make informed decisions about their futures. Professionals, apprentices and undergraduate students will be travelling from across the UK to showcase the variety of careers on offer. Young people can use this unique opportunity to find out whether they’d suit particular careers.”
The event has high-profile support from Baroness Dido Harding the Chair of NHS Improvement who will be delivering a keynote talk virtually and will be joined on the day by Professor Simon Gregory the Primary Care Lead for Health Education England and the Lord Mayor and Lord Mayoress of Birmingham.
There are still some tickets available; state-schooled pupils aged 12-18-years-old and their parents/guardians who are interested in attending can either book through their school or directly here. Conference updates are available on the dedicated Twitter page – search @AspiringHCConf.
