White Horse bans plastic drinking straws.
The White Horse pub and restaurant in Balsall Common has swapped plastic for paper – supporting the Last Plastic Straw project working towards combating plastic pollution.
The contemporary dining venue on the Kenilworth Road made the simple change last week replacing all plastic straws with biodegradable paper products.
Luke Hawkins, General Manager of The White Horse said: “We already recycle where we can including all cardboard, glass and cooking oil. As an independent business our decision to support the campaign has been an easy one. We’ve also taken on board the ‘no straw’ policy – so will only be serving a straw in a drink when requested.”
Straws have become a new concern for environmentalists keen to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up washed up in our oceans. Straws can take hundreds of years to decompose and have been known to cause harm to animals. It is thought 8.5 billion straws are used in the UK every year, according to figures from ITV.
