Remembrance Day service details announced.
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Anne Underwood, will lead the Remembrance Day Service and Parade on Sunday 12th November in Victoria Square.
Everyone is invited to attend and also observe the two-minute silence at 11am. Lord Mayor Cllr Anne Underwood said: “This year’s Remembrance Day Service and Parade takes place in Victoria Square. I invite everyone to attend and pay tribute to the men and women of our Armed Forces who have lost their lives in service.”
The order of the day is as follows: –
10.25 hrs: Marching contingents to form up on Colmore Row.
10.30 hrs: Uniformed Contingents march on
10.35 hrs: Members of the City Council and VIP’s proceed to the Grandstand
10.40 hrs: The combined Bands march on.
10.55 hrs: The Civic Wreath Laying Party leaves the Council House
10.56 hrs: The Lord Mayor’s party arrive at the dias.
The Chaplain will conduct the Service of Remembrance.
Prior to 11am a Roll of Drums will take place, then the playing of The Last Post. After the two-minute silence, a salute of gunfire will take place. The Salvation Army will lead the singing of O God our Help in Ages Past.
Wreath laying will then take place, led by the Lord Mayor. After all wreaths have been laid the Lord Mayor will await the march past as the contingent will parade off onto Waterloo Street and proceed onto Bennetts Hill, New Street and back onto Victoria Square. The Parade will disperse onto Eden Place.
Remembrance Sunday will mark the start of a programme of events commemorating the centenary of the end of the First World War next year. Birmingham Remembers will also celebrate the achievements of women across the city, to mark 100 years since the Suffragettes won the right for women to vote and play an active part in public life.
Traffic Restrictions for the event:
07.00 – 12.30 hrs: Colmore Row/Newhall Street to Waterloo Street/Bennetts Hill
10.00 – 12.00 hrs: Colmore Row/Church Street, Temple Row West/Temple Street, Temple Row West/Waterloo Street, Bennetts Hill/Newhall Street, New Street/Bennetts Hill
Signed diversions will be in operation.
