Man dies after stolen car crashes.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal accident that led to the death of a young man after a stolen car crashed into a wall in Birmingham in the early hours of Monday morning.

Officers were called to Balsall Heath shortly after 2.30am when an Audi A6 collided with a wall at the junction of Clifton Road and Lime Grove. Emergency services were quickly at the scene and three men were freed from the vehicle. However a 24-year-old suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead. The man’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers at this time.

Inspector Paul Bennett, from the force Collision Investigation Unit, urged witnesses to come forward. “This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life and a family has woken to the most horrific news this morning,” he said, adding , “We are in the early stages of our inquiry and urge witnesses who were in the Balsall Heath area at around 2.30am and may have seen the Audi A6 prior to the collision to contact us.

“Equally, the Audi is believed to have been stolen from the Hodge Hill area of the city some time last night and so we are keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the vicinity of Brockhurst Road.”

Three men from the vehicle, aged 21, 22 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. The 25-year-old was also detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving. They remain in police custody this morning.
