Here’s a way of helping others, and yourself, to get fit and help the environment.
Environmental group Sustrans are looking for Active Travel Champions to inspire people to be more active to walk and cycle for more of their everyday journeys.
As a Champion you can volunteer within your workplace, community or school in Birmingham. There are lots of ways to get involved, whether you want to help out on a small scale or take a more active role.
Champions are responsible for planning and organising group rides or walks, giving travel advice and talks, setting up bike user and commuter groups and giving out information at displays. They need to be good communicators, good motivators and able to offer support and encouragement to others. There’s a ninimum commitment to organise one activity every month or two.
Training is provided to improve your skills in influencing and persuading behaviour change in others, as well as introducing different techniques for promoting active travel in your community setting. There are also annual programmes of regional and national volunteer days to provide core skill training.
The next induction is Thursday 24th October, 10am – 12.30pm at the Sustrans office, Digbeth. For more details visit http://www.sustrans.org.uk
