Ex-European champion comes out of retirement to aid charity.
A former European gold medal-winning athlete is pulling his running shoes back on to tackle this year’s Bupa Great Birmingham Run.
Phil Taylor won gold as part of the Great Britain 4x400m relay team at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 2007, and silver two years later in Turin.
Forced to retire through an Achilles injury in 2010, aged just 25, Phil is now swapping the track for the road as he trains for his first half marathon on 20th October. “It feels good to feel the pain again,” h joked. “I’m really looking forward to the run, although people have told me there are a few hills to watch out for!”
Originally from Liverpool, Phil now lives in the Jewellery Quarter and has recently set up his own business, organising summer camps for international students. He is running in aid of the RSPB and can be sponsored at: https://www.justgiving.com/philtaylor400
Entries for the half marathon are now closed, but the Junior and Mini events are still open – enter at www.greatrun.org/birmingham
