New adult tap dancing group, Kate’s Tap Class are working on their first project, dancing to raise money for Children In Need. The class, based in Oldbury has only been open since June of this year and some of the members had never danced before.
The event, a Nationwide Tapathon, is run by The Performers Project and will not only be a fundraiser, but also a World Record attempt for the most tap dancers, dancing the same routine at the same time in multiple venues. Kate’s event takes place at midday on Sunday October 16th at Calthorpe School, Darwin Street, Highgate where Kate’s Tap Class will be joined by a group of students from Dizzy Dancers School of Dance.
Kate, teacher of the Oldbury class, former assistant of Dizzy Dancers and organiser of the event says ‘we are all very excited about the Tapathon. We are a new class and it has given the members something to focus on. We started rehearsing in early August and they are doing really well..Its really nice to be able to raise money for Children In Need by doing something we all enjoy.’
So far the group have raised over £150 for the charity and are hoping for more donations in the run up to the big day. Members of the public are welcome to spectate on the day and anyone wishing to make a donation of any amount can visit www.justgiving.com/kate-whitewood
